A thick gray blanket of clouds covered the sky this morning – everything was drab and dull on my walk. Frankie stayed home and the dogs disappeared so I was alone. Soon, I realized my thoughts matched the gray sky - Wayne's funeral is today and a friend is having surgery and then I started thinking about how old Charly is getting…

That's when I realized I didn't see any wildflowers. Nothing but dusty green and brown from the road into the woods. I couldn't believe it, so I kept looking, and sure enough, I discovered one little yellow flower – a buttercup-ish flower on a tall skinny stem, just sticking up alone amid the weeds. Then a little further along, another yellow flower – this one a mini-daisy.

Soon, there was another one…and another one. Then a little group. Then next to our driveway, teeny yellow flowers in several small clumps. Best of all, ahead of me, I noticed the sun shooting some rays out from under the gray blanket, reminding me the sun is still shining.  I just have to remember to notice.

Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you… (Maori proverb)
