Whew.

Is it just me, or is this year already going by too fast?

The tree is down, bills are paid, my desk is clean, but Christmas ornaments are scattered around the livingroom, dirty dishes fill the sink, laundry is waiting to be folded, my email inbox is inundated, and I haven't blogged in two days.

But taped to my desk in front of me is this quote:

If we are ever in doubt about what to do, it is a good rule to ask ourselves what we shall wish on the morrow that we had done." (John Lubbock)

I think when my alarm goes off at 5 am, I'll immediately wish I'd gone to bed sooner. So this is going to be a quick update.

A friend once told me that whatever you do on New Year's Day, that's what you'll be doing the rest of the year. I hope that's not true because I never found time to write (blog, book, or otherwise) or play my drums yesterday or today. I took a few photos, but didn't even look at them until tonight – I've barely been on the computer.

On the other hand, I spent time with all three kids this weekend, took a wonderful, long walk along the creek (a great blue heron soared directly above me), besides ushering in the new year with dear friends. I spent a leisurely morning yesterday making veggie omelettes and a leisurely afternoon (into evening) at our neighbor's dinner party. Later, instead of just slouching on the couch with a glass of wine (not that I ever do that, Mama), I ran almost 3 miles on the treadmill while watching an interesting movie with Daniel and Tom. (If you like martial arts and WW2 history, and don't mind subtitles, I recommend Ip Man, a loose biography on the man who trained Bruce Lee.)

We celebrated the Epiphany this morning at Mass, where the priest encouraged us to pay attention and pursue inspired thoughts or ideas or 'goals' that came to us, using as an example the Magi who followed through on their inspiration to find the new King. I like to think all of these driven desires inside of me are divinely inspired!

The rest of this day I spent with TG, hitting one sales rack after another until my feet were sore and my back ached.

I'm tired. But it's a wonderful tired.

More later…

Happy New Year!

I see your off to a wonderful start…just don’t worry about the dishes in the sink, there is no way of getting rid of those. They always come back…
You amaze me, you can run 3 miles? That is one thing we DON’T have in common, lol! I just started exercising again and I am beat…I do hope to get back in shape.
I will see if I can get that movie. I don’t mind subtitles at all!
Hope it’s a wonderful year for you, Tom and the kids!

I interpret your first day to be a great start because it was filled with family and friends and good times!

I agree with Jillsy Girl…..time spent with family was THE most important thing.

That's the way I choose to interpret it, too! I hope it means the rest of the year will be spent that way, but even if it isn't, at least I had that weekend!!

I think if it were true, too many of us would be staying in bed all day with hangovers! So I think you're safe. Every day's a new day, right? That's what I keep telling myself, anyway. Hope you have a wonderful 2011, too, Joanna!

That is so true about those dishes and the dust, isn't it? Yes, I can run 3 miles, but it took me a few years to build up to even that much! So just get started now and you'll surprise yourself (just take it slow so you don't hurt yourself. I started out walking/jogging.) I hope you have a wonderful year, too, Juana!!

    Oh, I sincerely hope 1-1-11 does NOT indicate everyday for the remainder. I awoke with a nasty headache (champagne induced) and took a 3-hr nap. NOT PRODUCTIVE in the least! {But it felt good to relax!!}
    Happy Day B!

If it's true, that just means you're going to indulge yourself and let yourself relax this year, which isn't a bad thing!! (But I'm still hoping it's not true myself – so many things I didn't do that day!) I saw that you still blogged everyday  – that's a major accomplishment, I think! (I haven't had a chance to comment – I get them emailed.) Hope that headache went away quickly and you had a wonderful weekend. Happy Monday, KT!

that is the craziest foolish bit of prediction advice I’ve heard this year and maybe ever. I should remember to tell my DIL who was having a baby boy on New Years Day. She’s not octo-mom so that foolish advice is totally wrong. Not to offend your friend who I guess might read this but here’s a bit of advice – don’t become an “old wife” by telling old wives tales.
“…play my drums…” ? you are a drummer? I would have never guessed that one.
    all the best

I'm pretty sure she knew it was an old wives' tale and repeated it tongue in cheek, knowing I'd take it that way. However, I also know she doesn't do any housework on New Year's Day, just in case. You know, some of those old wives were pretty smart!
I doubt if it will hold true for your DIL, though. Congratulations!!
Saying I'm a drummer is stretching it a bit. Suffice it to say I have a set of drums and I love to bang on them. Whether anyone enjoys hearing it is another story.

    You’re playing the drums!!?
My father was a drummer from the 40’s to the late 60’s! My mother would say he had “a real job” during the day.
He was part of a trio and played mostly weddings. When he was playing, my Mother would let me stay up late and watch old movies with her. I still have his drums and sticks.
    Keep on drummin’!!

Oh, how cool that you still have your father's drums and sticks! I'm not so much a "drummer" as a wannabe drummer – I would love to really learn to play but there's that dang time thing. I bang around on them when I can until something else gets neglected and screams loudly enough that I have to take care of it and neglect the drums. But it's still fun so I just keep trying. (I love old movies, too! That sounds like fun!)
