Valentine's Day Eve…

Tom made the cookie dough.

I peeled the wrappers off the milk chocolate hearts.

He formed the balls, rolled them in sugar and placed them on the cookie sheets I lined with foil.

He kept an eye on their baking, but together we topped each cookie with a heart and popped them in our mouths…

…over and over and over again.

When there's someone, one someone who makes your days brighter,

makes your joys greater,

makes your heart lighter,

Valentine's Day…

Tom was in the Suzuki, pulling out of the driveway just as I drove up.
"I'm going to get one more load of rock. Want to go with me?" he asked. Of course I did!

He cleared the dirty gloves and tools off the passenger seat, brushed as much loose dirt aside as he could, and I climbed in.  He drove to a spot near the lake where construction crews are laying new water pipe. The foreman gave Tom permission to gather up all the flat rock he wants – he's collecting them to use as paving stones for our future driveway, or as I like to call it, Hernia #5. Or maybe it's #6. I've lost count.

I helped him load the rock, then he showed me the mother lode of fossils he discovered. We spent the next half hour scouring the exposed lake bed for fossils, finding one stone heart after another, until the setting sun reminded us to head home.

That's when he discovered the flat in the right front tire. He drove the Suzuki as far as the top of our dirt road, then hopped out to lessen the weight on the tire. I drove it the last mile home with him following on foot.

Someone, one someone you want so to share with,

do everything with,

go everywhere with,

Valentine's Day Night…

Cards filled with love and sweetness. Candlelight. Grilled T-Bone steaks, Texas toast, fresh salad. A glass of pinot noir for me, a beer for him. A couple of cookies and "When Harry Met Sally".

Could there possibly be a better way to celebrate Valentine's Day? I can't imagine it.

Someone, one someone you want to live for–

you have that something called Love.

I was sorta hoping there might be one of those cookies left when I got to Austin. Oh, well.

You are, of course, blessed. I know this because I am, also. Life can certainly be sweet, even without the cookies!

I love when Billy Crystal sings Surrey with the Fringe on Top but not as much as heart shaped rocks.

I’ve never thought to use the chocolate hearts in the cookie centers before. I’ll be doing that next time. Thanks or the tip. They look delicious!

I wish I could claim the idea, but I actually got it from a friend, who either got it from Pinterest or a Food Blog. Thank you to whoever first thought of it, because they truly are delicious!
