A friend emailed me yesterday, wishing me a happy belated birthday, and explaining that she was late because one day in late March "I was going to work when a 22 old girl ran a red light and hit me.  She never even looked so no brakes were applied so I got the whole slam.  I am so lucky to be alive …"

My friend's neck is broken is two places; the neck brace she wears makes it difficult to type. She also almost lost her eyes – she had severe cuts close to both of them.

The girl that hit her was taken to the hospital, but had no severe injuries, so was escorted on to jail and to rehab. The girl has a history of DWI's and has had her license suspended. She even gave the police a false name to begin with: " …she was more worried about the license it seems rather than the fact that she almost killed me." Of course, the girl had no insurance.

My friend attached pictures of her face and the car. Seeing her face broke my heart …the ugly purple and red bruises still framing her eyes, stitches zipping across a deep gash on her forehead …

One glimpse at the photo of the car and I felt a shudder of familiarity … a white car, its nose smashed up into the body against the windshield … just too much like Tom's after his wreck in 1998 for comfort. Don't you think so?

My friend's car …

From our experience with Tom's wreck, I know my friend has a tough journey ahead of her. There's the pain and recovery from her injuries to deal with, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to the emotional and financial stress that follows an accident like this, especially when the guilty party tries to skirt blame and responsibility.

Please join me in praying for her … for a quick and complete healing, physically, emotionally and mentally, and for relief from the obvious financial burden this will cause.

I just finished reading your other post…yes this is so reminiscent of Tom’s accident. I will definitely say a prayer for a quick and smooth recovery.

Oh my! The aftermath of the car is just unbelievable. It’s good that your friend was fine after the accident.

Maybe that girl driver needed some help, don’t you think? Reckless drivers like her should not be allowed to drive again, or have their license suspended until they finally learn how to drive safely and responsibly. That accident almost took the life of your friend! What happened to the girl? Was she imprisoned? And your friend, it’s been two years after the incident, was she able to fully recover, physically and emotionally?

I may be a couple years late, but I deeply sympathize with what happened to your friend. I hope she has totally recovered by now. I know this incident must have left a devastating effect on her life since it left her with a lot of financial burden. I hope she already got the justice that she needed. This incident only tells us that we must be careful while on the road because, even if we end up not hurt in the accident, it could ruin the life of other people. Think about yourself and other’s too.

Showing no signs of remorse is one disturbing characteristic criminals have. The girl may be 22 years old, but with how she reacted to the situation makes you wonder if she’s a pro with denying and covering up for such atrocious doings. I know it’s been years, but I would love to hear from your friend. I hope she sees my message, just to give her encouragement. No doubt she’s one ball of bravery, but in any case she needs legal help, she may always ask for an assistance. It’s never wrong to know your rights. And knowing your rights gives criminals tight chance to abuse the law.
