…is freedom's shield and hope." – John Philip Sousa

Today is Flag Day. I almost forgot about it…

How easy it is to get so busy with our lives that we take for granted those things which make it possible to move about so freely that we get too busy to remember… so freely that we even take our freedom for granted.

Let us not take it for granted. Let us give this flag the respect it deserves, as the symbol of our country, and of the blood and sweat, the sacrifices, dreams and ideals that built it.

Off with your hat as the flag goes by!

And let the heart have its say';

you're man enough for a tear in your eye

that you will not wipe away.

~Henry Cuyler Bunner

I swing before your eyes as a bright gleam of color, a symbol of yourself, the pictured suggestion of that big thing which makes this nation. My stars and my stripes are your dream and your labors. They are bright with cheer, brilliant with courage, firm with faith, because you have made them so out of your heart. For you are the makers of the flag and it is well that you glory in the making. ~ Franklin Knight Lane

Happy Flag Day! Wave it proudly!

    Really? I bet it's because it falls in the summer and gets overshadowed by the 4th of July. I'm probably more aware of it from the years of having kids in Scouts. (I guess that means my blog is educational now!!)
