It started with a 7th grade slumber party and a crush on an older brother. It led to hours and hours on the phone, a few letters, a shy face-to-face encounter and "Mitch" scratched into the top of a beautiful wooden box decorated with ornate inlaid wood given to me by my grandmother.
I don't know how it ended, but it did. And then years passed, with just a fleeting thought every now and then, wondering…
And then came Facebook and a reconnection with the sister… and a reconnection with Mitch. Would he even remember me, much less the hours on the telephone?
It turns out he did. And now all of my questions have been answered – he's alive and well and we really were friends for a time. And now we are again.
Facebook is awesome.
