Young love, young bodies.

Tom and me

Before car wrecks and hernias and headaches and heart stents.

Me and tom

We're too cute

When there was…

…enough money…

…enough energy…

…enough time for all of our dreams to come true.

Man, how time flies!

But, you know…

Our love might not be young.

(Our bodies certainly aren't. They've gone through all of the above, and more.

And survived.)

We might not have enough money or energy or time for all we want.

But somehow we do have…

…enough money…

…enough energy…

…enough time for the things that are important to us.

As well as enough wisdom to take life one day at a time…

…and be grateful for that day.

The funny thing is, I still feel the same inside…just as young, just as old…the very same person I was in these photos when I was 24…

…way back in 1983.

Me from Jim

Pretty scary, huh?

My friend and former co-worker, Jim, posted these photos on Facebook today. They are from a camping trip to Canyon Lake my fellow shift members and I (and our families) took back in 1983.

Tom and I were two months away from our 1st wedding anniversary.

I have many photos from this same year, several from this same trip, but I'm familiar with the "me" I am in those.

Seeing these, however, is like seeing a "me" I had forgotten all about, and stepping back into memories I'd tucked away, memories of dear friends and fun times.

Life goes on and sometimes you have to leave people and places behind, but seeing these photos reminds me that the ones who come close enough to leave an impression are never really gone…and if you're lucky, they wander back in a little ways down the road…

That is just GREAT stuff, to be transported back in time like that. God bless your friend for sending you the photos, and thank YOU for sharing them.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my 'travel' photos! I'm glad you enjoyed them, too. I agree…God bless Jim for taking so many and for sharing them – when I went looking for mine, most of them had faded out with time. These are a treasure! (He also has video clips of us at fire school. I'd love to get a copy of those!)

OMG!! Loving the photos of you hubby’s short-shorts…LOL! Oh, I remember those!!!
Also, especially love Jesse’s glasses…and the one of Jesse and Jim cracks me up! Love Jim’s hair!
Also, love what you said, “I still feel the same inside” – YES! Isn’t getting older amazing in its own special way?
    Thanks Barbara!

Can you believe guys wore their shorts that short?? And yes, getting older is wonderful because you get to keep all of the other ages you've been, too!

What a sweet post…and great photos! You and Tom seem so in love, how precious…
You know I was thinking today about how we change outside and
still feel the same inside. I sometimes can not believe what I see in the mirror…it just does not match!

Oh goodness, I experienced the same nostalgia this weekend! We were cleaning out the den and my 15 year old found old photo albums. She was so entranced of my husband and I as ‘young people’ (circa early 80’s as well)that she scanned many of the pics and put them on HER Facebook page.
She asked me to put one of them, me at 21 yrs old, as my Profile Pic. So, I did. And I ALMOST put a statement asking the person who had shared in the weekend where the pic was taken if she remembered the weekend.
Well, she commented on the picture saying she remembered when the picture was taken and she still had fond memories of that weekend herself.
It was such a surreal experience. And here I am now seeing that you have not shared something similar. So amazing.
The pictures included a shot of my husband in his ADIDAS short shorts … and my daughter felt it was ‘too gross to post’. Ah well, sucks to be him!
Love that we’ve connected online …

Oh, that is so cool that we both went through it! That's so sweet that she scanned them and posted them! My friend also sent me a copy of a video from a party around the same time. Now that's really weird, watching myself. I don't even remember the party!! I agree, it's surreal…in a way it seems like yesterday, and in another it's from another lifetime. (Isn't it hilarious now how short the guys' shorts were? Anything longer I called 'grandpa shorts'. lol)
I love that we've connected on here, too!

I know exactly what you mean when you look back and see yourself. Even though you are the same person, it seems like it was in a totally different world. I love looking at old pictures…thanks for sharing!
I’m back and I’m going to take my time and go through each of the posts I’ve missed!!
