The trio of crape myrtles at the top of our walk are bare, just bunches of naked gray branches with nary a leaf, much less the beautiful pink blossoms they flaunted last summer.

And yet I know somewhere inside those gray-brown forlorn branches, new buds are waiting. They are biding their time, waiting for the perfect conditions, to make another grand entrance.

That's how I feel these days, like a bare crape myrtle, in between seasons.

Something is there, waiting to bloom. I don't know what color it will be, what shape it will take, but I'm eager to see it. Restless.

I hope it doesn't take too long.

Waiting, yes it’s difficult. One can only hope there is something ready to burst forward in a rush of color.
It’s dark and drab here and I’m so ready for color, warmth and that wonderful feeling I get in spring as things start to change.

This week we’re certainly getting a taste of it. Blue skies, warm breezes. A big butterfly was even flitting around our backyard yesterday ~ Spring must be just around the corner!

I hate waiting for spring…or not winter as we call it here in AK (since we only have two seasons). I love winter, but I am getting a little tired of all the white.

Oh this season is so drab, grey and lifeless over here, nothing but dark skies and relentless rain. I tell myself this is the reason why our island is so lush and verdant come the summer. But like the weather, I feel dismal and weary, pacing time – summer will come, and when it does, we shall all bloom!

I wish I could send you some of our warmth and sunshine. I think spring skipped us – it feels like we've gone straight into summer!
