Backpacking for days in the semi-wilderness of Big Bend, just Tom and Daniel …

That's how they've spent the past several spring breaks, except for one, sharing moonlight, sunlight, water and a tent … and engraving memories in their hearts they can share forever.

Memories like this sunrise they witnessed from a cliff, waiting in the silent pre-dawn darkness for the first moment of its arrival…

Memories and experiences like this are father-son glue, bonding them forever, and I'm so grateful they've spent this time together – so grateful they want to spend time together.

(Daniel's my son for sure – he took over 600 photos so I could experience their trip vicariously. He's such a sweet kid. I'll share more later. Happy Friday!)

Bravo to your Daniel for taking so many photos! Such a sweet and thoughtful thing to do. If the sunrise is any indication, I can’t wait to see the rest.
I love the way you wrote this post.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

He doesn't have a fancy camera, but he got some fantastic shots! I had started going through them to post and got overwhelmed, and just put these up. It was such a wonderful experience for them. Hope you have a great weekend, too!

Barbara, this is truly BEAUTIFUL. And I am not talking JUST about the photos, but that a son choses to spend Spring break with his father every year…
I loved it, and can imagine how much you did too, as you saw their photos tell the story of their days together!!

I think so, too. I'm glad they take advantage of the opportunity while they can! I might crash the party next year…

If you look at a map of Texas, it's above that big bend in the Rio Grande that dips way down on the left. West Texas, near Fort Stockton. We went tent camping there as a family years ago and hiked all over it – awesome place!

He got some really good shots, but it's what they symbolize that I love the most!
