Thank you to everyone who said a prayer, crossed their fingers or in some way tried to steer Tropical Storm Don more to the north, providing us with a better chance of rain to ease this drought.

However, I just saw this post by my weatherman on Facebook…

Dear Don,
Thanks for nothing.
Sincerely,
Central Texas.
p.s. Emily…we're counting on you.

It seems pretty official that Don left us in the dust. Literally.

But, I know God knows what he's doing, so I guess South Texas and Mexico needed the rain more than we did right now. Perhaps this "Emily" is the answer to our prayer, so please keep 'em coming!

Did you read my Face in the Mirror post a few days ago?

When my my blogger friend Suldog read it, he was inspired to write his own Ode to his Face.

Hop over to his site and take a look HERE. (Warning – his version is definitely rated at least PG-13. Maybe even R.)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. ~ Charles Caleb Colton

and I'm sure that includes parody. So thank you, Jim!

Glancing at my stats the other day, I noticed several hits from a site called Best Posts of the Week. It seems someone nominated my Week of Moons post on my photography blog as a 'best post'.

I have no idea who it was, but who ever you are, thank you!

Last year I spent a few days with my creative friend Ann in Galveston. I fell in love with an antique frame she had turned into an earring holder.

A few months later I came across a different version of the idea in a magazine and alerted my friends to be on the lookout for old photo frames so I could make my own.

My friend Mary Kay, as usual, wasn't satisfied with just finding me a frame – she went on to create this wonderful earring holder/display for me, as well as two others to use for my jewelry business.

One thing is obvious – I need more earrings!

No, that's not it. What's obvious is Mary Kay is amazing – and an amazing friend!

Thank you, Mary Kay!

I took the day off for some junking/photography fun today. Along with Mary Kay (see above), her friend Claudia visiting from Colorado and TG, I spent the day enjoying old Georgetown…

…and kicking myself, because I can't even count the number of times I've been in Georgetown over the past 15 years for soccer games, college visits, doctor visits, eating out, visiting friends… and never took the time to explore the wonderful town square, full of eclectic shops and beautiful architecture.

Thanks again to Mary Kay for finally getting me there and to Claudia for lunch at the Monument Cafe. It was a wonderful day.

Look at this bench made to look like a book, sitting outside of a bookstore – I LOVE it! That's Claudia and Mary Kay just a little ways down…

But that's not my favorite photo of the week. I picked this one of the purple flower because it's no longer there – the drought was too much for it.

But in this photo, it looks like it's dancing, doesn't it? It had fun – truly blossomed – while it was here.

(It's also posted HERE on my photography blog along with other flowers that defied the drought and bloomed anyway, at least for a little while.)

I also love this photo because it's such a tiny flower that you can't even see its beauty unless you get up this close – and that's such a great lesson about true beauty and paying attention, isn't it? It's often worth taking a closer look at things that it would be easy to ignore.

Hope you had a wonderful Friday and didn't miss a thing!

I love that earring frame! What is the material that MK used for it? I’d love to make one!

It's a type of soft screening – the one I saw in the magazine just used window screening. I found some old frames at Goodwill last week and TG made one using some kind of sunblock mesh Tom had down in the garage! We'll have earrings hanging everywhere soon 🙂

I owe everyone an apology. TS Don fizzled because Ralph’s 89 yr old Auntie Anna in Chicago saw a weather report and she prayed it away! Anna is such a truly good and faithful servant, I believe God pays extra attention to her prayers.

Thanks! It was a fun day – two days away from the computer really sets me back, but it's worth it!

Apropos of God knowing what he’s doing, there’s an interesting piece in the New Yorker entitled “God’s Blog.”
