Tom and Daniel headed out this morning for several days of fishing on the coast. Would you believe TG and I weren't invited?

But that's okay with me. I wasn't even tempted to tag along. When I say they'll be "on the coast," I really mean "on the coast"! They're planning to park the truck right on the beach and just stay put.

Despite my love for the sun and sand, my idea of a vacation at the beach includes an air-conditioned high-rise condo decorated in blues and greens and cute beach decor. Oh, and also with a balcony looking far out over the water where I can sit with my coffee in the mornings and a glass of wine in the evenings.

And I'll get exactly that in about two months.

So, have fun, guys! Be safe! TG and I will miss you while we sit here holding down this (air-conditioned) home fort!

My poor baby crape myrtle trees. Only one is budding, and it hasn't made much progress in days. Every morning I haul buckets of water up the stone path to them, whisper encouraging things and say another prayer for a good soaking rain.

Sigh.

At least their leaves are still green. And summer's not over!

Now for my week of sweet! moments…

Saturday: whacking and killing a centipede without its legs scattering all over the laundry room floor (why, yes, I do have a photo! But for the sake of the skittish, I decided not to share it. Yet…); a quick trip into a Goodwill store and finding treasure.

Sunday: spotting a silver fox running cross the road right in front of you on the way home from church.

Monday: a summer morning on the back deck; the sight of three spotted fawns lounging in the shade, waiting for their mamas (and the sight of their mamas joining them later, soothing your fear that the kids were abandoned!)

Tuesday: stealing a few morning minutes to play your drums for the first time in months

Wednesday: another sighting of the fawns, this time with their big brother (who keeps an eye on you as you walk by!)

Thursday: the quiet of a college computer lab when you need to write

Friday: a perfect Reuben sandwich; more bargains at Goodwill; an afternoon with friends and my camera in an old Texas courthouse square full of eclectic shops and architecture.

Saturday: hummingbirds; an icy limoncella (or two) with friends on a hot Texas evening; Mary Kay's chicken enchiladas; selling some jewelry!

What were some of your sweet! moments this week? (You are keeping track, aren't you?)

The only problem with vacations like that is they go by too fast, don't you agree?

I don’t much like to fish but I’d be right there on the beach with my little tent and camp stove. No housework, no time schedule. I love camping!
Sweets for the week? breakfast with an old friend – playing catch-up over eggs benedict; naps in the warm afternoon sunshine in my screened tent; a poem that’s been wandering around in my head finally committed itself to paper; a bowl of velvety French Chocolate ice cream; the first tomato from the garden!

I'm guessing you mean the guys? Tom's counting on a breeze from the gulf. I hope he's right!!

Hope things cool off. Lovely shot of the flower – hope it survives.

It was in broad daylight, too! Very cool, even though I'm afraid it's after my goofy doves. If I still had my guinea fowl, Frankie, I'd be going fox hunting, though.

Oh, that's a wonderful list of sweets!! I agree with the no housework, no time schedule thing, but I get that in my condo, plus a/c when I'm sleeping! (although there have been times on my coast weekend when I've thought sleeping in a hammock out on the balcony would be wonderful!)

I'm hoping to! I wish we didn't have work and school – then we'd really enjoy it!!

perfect Reuben sandwich – oh that sounds tasty. They make a good at the pub nearby. Do you dip your into creamy french dressing?
Hey it sure is nice to know a millionaire now.
    Hope the rumor spreads.

Oh, I could do a little hut on the beach listening to the waves lapping nearby! But it needs to have a microwave!

I'm afraid the camper over the truck bed isn't going to get much of a breeze. I wouldn't mind a little hut so much, if it had big screened windows and, perhaps, a fan. And coffee maker. And indoor plumbing…

No, I've never tried dipping it – sounds good, though. I'll try it next time. And I hope the rumor becomes TRUE.

Goodness, what a busy, yet wonderful week you’ve had, I so would have loved to have seen those deer, our island doesn’t have any (or squirrels) over here, we don’t have foxes, either. I do miss those little critters.

I never thought to ask if you had air conditioning out there on the range. Duh! I’m so glad you do.
Did I ever tell you I was in Dallas for a week a few years ago, and it was 100 and muggy? I swear I would have died if I had to stay outside more than 20 minutes at a time.

Oh, lord, I wouldn't be living here without a/c. Although I'm old enough to remember when we first put it in our house. Before that, we relied on screen doors and an attic fan. Don't know how we survived!! lol Yes, you told me about your Dallas adventure. Dallas has actually been hotter than Austin lately – or at least not cooling down at night.
