My excuse for not doing laundry…

DSC_0001s (Medium)
Who wants to do laundry with two big stinky shedding dogs sprawled across the laundry room floor? This is where they spend much of their time these days (and part of the nights – it doesn't cool down quickly!)

I swept up enough dog hair off that floor the other day to knit a small sweater. Ugh.

If today's temps top 100, and in all likelihood they will, it will be the 65th day of triple digit temps in the Austin area. The record (set back in 1925 or so) is 69.

What's wrong with me that I hope we beat the record? But, you know, we've suffered this much… I figure we should at least get on the record books, right?

I'm not sure we have enough clothes to hold out on laundry that long, though. Sigh.

A quick update on my Daddy… he's still in the hospital, getting about every test I've ever heard of plus some. So far he's passed them all with flying colors. I told him I hope they stamp him "Approved" and send him home soon.

The problem is, there's definitely something wrong and they haven't figured out what it is yet. I'm still praying they find it and it's something minor and quick-fixable, because an extended hospital stay isn't easy on him or my mom.

In the meantime, I'm under orders from that same mom not to worry and not to head that way. "We're just fine, thank you." So I'm just continuing along on my regularly scheduled program, keeping tabs on them via the phone and my sister. (But ready to drop everything and jump in the car, if necessary.)

Thank you again for all your sweet words of reassurance and comfort, and for your prayers.

Hope you have a wonderful Friday!

At least you have a heart and keep them cool during 100+ temps. Great photo!

hope dad will be ok. think positive. i can’t imagine that many days in triple digit numbers. we might get a few days during the summer that hit one hundred, this year we haven’t gone over 90.

The funny thing is I can remember when I thought the 90s were hot!

Sending Best Wishes to your Dad! Just got back from Denver and doing some catch up. With this summer heat, I can make a pillow weekly from Sophie’s shedding coat. The laundry room is a great option for your 4 pawed kiddos. Ours seem to rule the entire house at times.

Hope the news about your dad continues to be good. It’s so nerve wracking not to know what’s wrong, isn’t it?
Sweep around the dogs. Once you’ve surpassed the heat record you can send them back outdoors! Only 3 more days to go… and since there’s no stopping time, eventually that awful heat has to break. We’ve been getting overnight temps down in the 50s – a small taste of what’s to come in the next couple of months.

Thanks, Pauline! Yes, it's frustrating not to know what's wrong, but I'm very grateful he's at least not getting any worse. I can't help but see the irony of wishing for summer in the winter and wishing for winter in the summer. Sigh.

Yes, it's perfect – stained concrete floors! But you should see the complicated system of boxes and containers we've used to fence them into a specific area downstairs – Belle has ventured upstairs to visit a few times when someone forgot to close the gap! She's very social (and gets bored! Max is happy to just lie there for hours!) Thanks for the good wishes for my dad. I really appreciate it!

Here in Dallas we came SO close to breaking the record. I was so mad when we dipped below 100 the day before we were to tie the record. We’ve been above 100 every day since so we could have potentially set a record for all time, but 99? Oy, I was mad!
Hope they find out what is wrong with your dad. Must be so frustrating for all involved to be unable to pinpoint what the issue is. Still have you on my prayer list…

Thanks, Gail. I totally know what you mean about the record – however, I've lost track of the days and haven't even watched the news lately, so I wonder if we've passed ours yet? I'll have to go see….
