Last week, I took these photos of the pond in the hills…

As you can see, I use the word "pond" lightly…

Instead of a pond, I think it had become a nightclub for raccoons! Looks like they have some pretty good dance moves down!

But then, something magical happened… It rained!

All it took was one good soaking two-incher on Sunday, and look…

"Yay, the neighborhood pool is open again!"

Now, it might look pretty nasty to us, but Max was in heaven!

He felt pretty frisky after his swim and wanted to play. I think he hurt Haley's feelings and she wandered off for a bit, but Belle was up for some rough-housing, as usual.

I'm so glad we got that puppy.

She's the perfect match for him.

Haley ventured back and Max apologized. That's my boy… quite the gentleman.

And then he attacked Belle again.

(Don't worry. They're just playing.)

(No, really. No one was hurt!)

(I'm serious! Although one day they slammed into me when they were playing like this and jarred my back…)

Anyway, to make up for these violent scenes, here's a wild onion bloom I discovered in our little front yard. I hope it helps you regain a sense of peace.

I don't think they're supposed to be blooming right now – this drought and then the rain has everything all mixed up. But I'm not complaining!

Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.

Lovely pics! There’s nothing to raise the spirits like dogs frolicking in the water and mud!

It’s pouring rain up here today, and I was sort of angry about it. I was going to get wet, damn it! Then I read this and recalled how you folks needed the rain so badly, and were praying for it, and I realized my getting a bit wet doesn’t equal the joy the farmers feel, and the animals, and the plants, and…
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
Yup. I’ve got no problem with the rain, now. Thanks!

Gosh, amazing what one steady rainfall can do for a dried up pond! Love the dog shots…melts my heart…especially the one of the touching noses. 🙂

It was so sweet! Melted my heart, too, and made me so proud of my sweet boy!

I had to travel in the rain on Sunday – I hate driving on wet roads, but I was able to shush my inner whining, go slow and give thanks! (It helped that the sun came out halfway home!)

Will the pond last? What a transformation!
What does the onion plant smell like? There’s a garlic garden near here. Horrible! (Though I love garlic.)

Alas, no, without more rain it will dwindle away again. Although it took months of drought for this one to completely dry up, so the pool should be open as long as the puppies need it! The onion flowers actually don't have a smell that I've noticed (thank goodness now that you've mentioned the garlic garden!)
