Back in October, Shutterfly approached me with a holiday card offer.

I love Shutterfly, although I haven't used it as much as I'd like, and now (yay!) they were offering me the the chance to get 50 free cards, plus offer three of my readers 25 free cards each!

But because of my "Thanksgiving Comes First" stance, I turned them down. It was tough, let me tell you.

To my surprise, they agreed to let me postpone my post until after Thanksgiving. (Thanks, Shutterfly!) It makes me even more eager to use their services and products.

And guess what? It's after Thanksgiving!

In fact, tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent, the season when we reflect on the Nativity and think about the future coming of the Lord… essentially,  the beginning of the Christmas season, when I hope to find tons of Christmas cards stuffed and overflowing out of my mailbox every day.

You can't expect Christmas cards if you don't send them, though, so every year I vow to get my cards in the mail the day after Thanksgiving.

I think it's only happened once in 30 years. Usually my cards arrive closer to New Year's Day than Christmas.

When the kids were young, I took their photo, printed a zillion copies and stuck them in cheap Christmas cards. It was easy to snap a photo of my kids were young; not so easy once they got older, busier and more vocal in protest over the photos.

So I began writing one of those Christmas newsletters with photos captured during the year scattered amongst the text. Then I stuck it in a cheap card.

But I've always drooled over the beautiful photo cards that arrive in our mailbox – and this year, thanks to Shutterfly, I get to send out some of my own.

Now, I just need to choose from one of their beautiful card designs. That's going to be tough. For me, Christmas is a religious day and I want my cards to reflect that belief, but how I'm going to pick one out of Shutterfly's many choices, I don't know.

I've got it narrowed down to three, though. (Aren't these beautiful?)

(I'd insert photos of my own family, though, of course!)

The bottom one is my favorite, but I doubt if I have one single photo of my family. I can't wait to sort through the photos of the past year for the ones to use – and I can't wait to see them on one of these cards. They'll look so much better than on a piece of copy paper!

For a chance to win 25 free cards from Shutterfly of your own, just tell me something you're grateful for in the comments section below. I'll choose the three winners by random selection at midnight December 1st and will announce the winners in a post on December 2nd. (Be sure to leave your email address so I can contact you!)

And now for my weekly Sweet! report…

Sunday: a homily that soothes your heart; a quiet day at work following one of the busiest ever; fried chocolate torte

Monday: listening to old cd's while you work; your puppy reminding you to take breaks from the computer

Tuesday: thunderstorms that wake you up; morning sunflares; a letter from a dear friend

Wednesday: a barbed wire fence glistening with dew drops;a potential new photo shoot; finding a back way through the countryside into Houston to bypass holiday traffic; being with all three of your kids at once in your childhood home

Thursday: cooking in your mother's kitchen; drinking mimosas from crystal stemware you bought your mother in Venice 35 years ago (and being able to picture the store where you bought it); complements on your roasted turkey and ham; holding hands in prayer with your family, giving thanks for one another; watching the sun set while you swing; the team you're rooting for winning a teeth-clenching-close football game

Friday: Thanksgiving leftovers; gabbing with your mother and sister at the kitchen table; arriving back home from a road trip, safe and sound

Saturday: waking to rainfall; a morning walk with your sweetie; seeing a friend's precious red-haired granddaughter in person; a second professional photo shoot; your husband helping your daughter with her engineering homework

Hope you had a week overflowing with Sweet! moments!

(Don't forget to share one here for your chance to win 25 cards from Shutterfly!)

What a fabulous week and congratulations on your second photo gig! That’s exciting.
I’ve not done holiday cards in years, not really since the divorce, now that i think about it. But, I decided that maybe it was time to let people know how the ex is, and the grandbabies. We’ll see. Sounds good, but feels like work and ‘forced’ cheer.
I had my oldest and his family here for 4 nights and it was full of sweet moments. The best being the early waking of my oldest granddaughter. She climbs up in my lap and silently lets me cuddle her for a little bit. Absolutely a wonderful feeling.

A lovely giveaway and so nice of Shutterfly to allow you to hold off for a bit.. and especially kind of you to turn it down initially in order to support Suldog and his TCF quest.
I don’t know if the offer is open to Canadians but in case it is, I tell you that I’m thankful for having discovered photography in the past few years and having the venue with which to share it and enjoy others.

Oh gosh, I so agree on that family snapshot being increasingly harder to achieve as the brood grows older! My eldest steadfastly refuses to pose at all these-days (sigh). What a lovely give-away Barbara, and yes, I think the third one is also my favourite too. Sounds as though you’ve had a truly beautiful week, being surrounded by the love of all your family and friends.
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK, but this past week has certainly been filled with sweet moments. Hubby, Sweet Sam and I caught the ferry to the mainland, then drove towards the Scottish borders (such magnificent scenery), to visit our eldest son in his University town. He’s recently leased a house with NINE of his friends, all of whom he introduced us to, and we spent a beautiful weekend catching up together.
I am also touched at all the unbidden hard work hubby did around the house upon our return, in preparation for the decorators arriving this week, before he flew out for his week in London, today. And I am ETERNALLY thankful the girls held no wild parties in our absence from the house (it’s the first time we’ve left them home-alone)..!

Good luck with the Christmas cards. I always love getting them, and I guess on only gets if one sends out – at least in the long run. Seems like Shutterfly has gotten you going here.

They've given me the motivation – I wish they could help me select the photos I should use! Decisions, decisions!

Yes, you definitely have some sweet! moments from the past week!! How fun to go visit your son – but oh my gosh, NINE in one house? yikes! That's so sweet that he introduced you to all of them. And how wonderful that your daughters behaved themselves while you were gone! (Remind me to tell you one of my stories… 🙂 I know it was a relief to you that your husband did all of that work before leaving – very thoughtful! Thank you for sharing all of these – they truly brightened my day!!

Oh man, I would LOVE to win this! I have already ordered our cards (from Shutterfly!), but was only able to order 25 due to budgetary limitations this year…and now having a VERY hard time deciding who will “make the cut” this year. This would be such a gift!!

Oops – forgot to share my “sweet” moment from last week…DEFINITELY being woken up at 5:00AM the morning after Thanksgiving. I know, doesn’t sound so sweet, right?
When it is your 5 year old and he comes to the side of the bed and says, “Mommy – will you say a prayer with me?” it is oh SO sweet!

And I'm grateful that you discovered photography and have the venue to share it, too!! Love your photos! I haven't heard that the contest is closed to anyone. Good question, though! I guess I better go ask someone…

I know how sweet it is to cuddle my young nieces and nephews – from what I've heard, cuddling grandchildren is ten times sweeter! I'm glad you had those moments over the weekend. Cards are indeed lots of work – I'm trying to figure out how to fit them in. I've often considered skipping them, but I've given up on that. I love sending them, but mostly receiving them and seeing all of them hanging from the garland I wrap around the stair banister.

That first card is my favorite!! The red with gold lettering accompanied by the b&w photos is so dramatic. And I love that Shutterfly has religious cards…good to know!
I am thankful that my job of 23 years is ending on a good note and my new life in Baton Rouge caring for my mother is closer to reality. 🙂

Well, I know if you win it the prize will be put to good use! That's one reason I always went the cheapest route possible – I'm terrible at making decisions and weeding people out.

Oh, I love the cards, especially the one you chose!
I got a lot to be thankful for… but I will have to come back after thinking a little more what I want to share. Now, is it what I am thankful for, or a sweet moment? Maybe I should just share: I am thankful for those sweet moments when I can actually think, read, and remember things correctly… (lately I have a 10 second memory span)

Ah – so many sweet sweet moments! I haven’t tried making cards from Shutterfly yet, but the Red Bubble ones I’ve made are good quality.
