This afternoon I sat on a sun-warmed rock beside our pond, watching tadpoles scurry about just under the surface. A finger of wind traced ripples, sending drops of sparkling sunshine scattering like shooting stars in front of me.

Butterflies flirted with flowers. Dragonflies flirted with each other.

Max and Belle waded, drank, relished the cold and hot on their bodies.

And I just sat there in silence, caught in Spring's spell… oozing gratitude out of every pore in my body…

"It's spring fever.

That is what the name of it is.

And when you've got it, you want – oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want,

but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!"

 ~Mark Twain

Love the photo of the dragonfly. While you had a case of spring fever, I had about 3 or more inches of snow. Big gorgeous fluffy flakes. By 4 PM sun was out and it was gone. 18 degrees this morning.
    Spring?

Hey, missy – I just pinned your dragon fly photo up on my “blogs I like” board. Love the fact that ONE of us lives where spring is a bit farther along. While there’s little or no snow on the ground up here, it’s still a mite chilly….

Twain is my favorite author because he usually has exactly the right words for any situation. And, even when he doesn’t, he admits it in a way that is still perfect 🙂

I should read some Mark Twain. You describe a wonderful moment.
The dragonfly pics and words has me thinking of book titled “Sex On Six Legs”. I learned amazing facts about insects reading that book.

That book sounds vaguely familiar, but could it be I read about it on your blog? lol And, Bill, are you saying you've never read any Mark Twain? If not, you need to get busy. I think you'd enjoy his work!

He does, doesn't he? Have you ever read any of his political stuff? I didn't realize he was so politically outspoken until a few years ago, when I came across it doing research for something else. I couldn't stop reading!

I remember reading about a frog jumping back in High School. I have read many of his quotes, the political ones too.

Once again, I’m having difficulty commenting. UGH. Here’s one more try….
I love your first paragraph…it creates a beautiful visual which gets topped of by the lovely dragonfly images.

That purple and green look so beautiful together. Very Debussy. Instead of “Afternoon of a Faun”, it should have been “Afternoon of a Dragonfly.”

Ah, you flatter me. But I do think "Afternoon of a Dragonfly" has a nice ring to it! If it was inspired by these dragonflies, it would have a fast tempo, that's for sure!

Mine, too, Hilary! It was so dry last year, we didn't have many. I'm hoping they come back around and stay awhile this year!

Thanks, Fiona! I kept hoping they'd land somewhere and be still a minute for a photo, but I'm afraid they were under the spell of a different 'spring fever'.! 🙂

Thank you, Kathy! If it's any consolation, your summer will probably feel like our spring (while we're baking down here again!!) But I still wish for your sake spring gets to you soon!

Well, I was enjoying it, but yesterday the temperatures dropped 20-30 degrees and it's going to be a chilly, rainy weekend. No threat of a freeze, though, so I think we're just still in that smoke and mirrors phase you talked about!

You really made me long for spring (even if I still have a lot of skiing I want to do before that). Actually your post almost feel more like the middle of the summer to me. The dragonflies pictures are great, I love the blurred images that brings out so much of the character of the dragonflies. Great with the cool and muted colours.

I have a feeling our winter is similar to spring in a lot of places, and our spring resembles summer!
