1. Our property is dotted with small iron crosses, marking the resting places of so many precious furry or feathered or scaly loved ones we've been blessed to know. I miss them all. The one above is Charly's and Frankie's.

2. I will never get rich monetarily through my blog, but the friendships I've formed because of it are priceless. I've met so many supportive, encouraging, talented friends, and two of them have recently published books. I didn't hesitate to buy them because they are both wonderful, evocative writers, and I feel confident touting them here even though I haven't had time to read either one.

Love Always Wags Its Tail, by Kathy H. Porter, is a collection of short essays about the dogs in her life. Wolf Pascoe shares what it's like being an anesthesiologist in Breathing for Two.

Follow the links to their blogs and you'll find information about the books. (I received no monetary compensation for these shout-outs – only friendship and support for my own writing.)

3. The next time you go out to eat and the place is packed and you start to get irritated because you feel your waiter is ignoring you, please take a deep breath, realize you are not the only customer in the place and that he/she can only do so much at one time, and please, please, please remember your manners. Thank you.

(Oh. And if the website suggests reservations, either make a reservation or don't get upset if you can't be seated. Especially if you're bringing 7 of your friends.)

4. Back at the beginning of January, I decided I would start getting up at 4:30 a.m. instead of 5:30 a.m. so I would have time to work out and/or write before heading to work, if someone happened to call me out. (That's the life of a substitute teacher – you have to be flexible!)

Well, I finally did it. Once. This week. Yay, me!

5. For the past week or so, I've spent hours tormenting myself, listening to one You Tube video after another of potential songs for the mother/son dance at the upcoming wedding.

I just sat here at my computer and cried and cried. It was beautiful agony, I tell you, reliving those mom memories. But here's one that made me laugh, even though I wouldn't do this myself..

(Actually, that theme from the Ninja Turtles brings back so many memories, I almost started crying in this one, too!)

Nancy at A Rural Journal inspired me to start my Five Things on Friday, although I mutilated her better-alliterated version, 5 Facts Friday, so I encourage you to read hers and add your own if you're so inclined! And I remembered Mrs. 4444 has a regular Friday Fragments hop, so I'll be linking up there, too. It's a great way to tie up all those loose ends from the week!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Meeting people and making friends makes blogging worthwhile for me, too.
How did I not know there were mother-son dances at weddings? That one was adorable, but really long. I guess making it complicated like that keeps you from sobbing, though.

I would still be sobbing, I bet. It was cute, but I feel the night belongs to the bride and groom. I wouldn't want that much attention on me!

Your property sounds like ours. Quite a few feathered and furry friends over the years.
You’re not going to believe this, but I can feel a huge lump in my throat, just thinking about selecting a mother/son song.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for mentioning my book on your blog….I’m touched and honored because I value your “good taste in all things” and I know you don’t make recommendations lightly.
As a “fellow sub” (my classroom time was many years ago), I too, was an early morning riser and I actually wrote most of my Master’s thesis between the hours of 4AM – 9AM. Do you know that this is still my most favorite time of the day?

That dance was so cute! I could so see you doing that or one like it. I’m so curious to know the song you chose!

Oh the turtles got me! For my sons wedding he and I danced to a Dolly Parton medley. It was teary…
One more son to go, hopefully not anytime soon he is not a good picker:(
The crazy restaurant rage people can have is alarming sometimes. I worked as a server and a manager and shed a lot of tears because of just plain mean people.
I get up at 5 am several mornings a week to write. I used to be a night writer but life changed that habit. I am enjoying the alone, quiet time but it can be tough getting out from under my toasty warm covers…

Thank you for visiting with me. You are a no-reply so I could not comment to your comment. I love the picture. I just love rusty iron and what beautiful markers they are. Blogging is all about friendship. I was pretty ill with my COPD four years ago and this changed my life. So true about taking a deep breath. We have noticed that many places we love to eat at have less employees over the years since the recession started. So you have a wedding coming. Love these fun wedding dances people have been doing. Have a nice weekend.

Yikes – I didn't realize when I signed in with Typepad that it was a no-reply! Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for the shout out of Breathing for Two, Barbara. I look forward to telling readers about your book when it’s ready!
I loved the mother-son dance video. She seemed like a great mom, but I kept thinking about the bride–what a tough act to follow.

My father didn’t let us bury the critters on our property. I think he wanted to avoid digging holes.
As a one-time-waitress, I would like to shout your restaurant advice from the top of mountains!! Waitresses are not robots, they have only so much they can juggle. Please simply remind the poor person you asked for water or more napkins. Being gracious will help them out so much!!
Blogging has been a wonderful way to meet new friends.
I have 4 young boys, I may have to begin thinking of dances for weddings someday 🙂

We've had to dig some big holes, that's for sure, and then make sure they were covered in enough rocks that other critters didn't manage to 'un-bury' them. Sigh. The good thing about having boys is that there isn't a whole lot you have to do for the wedding other than come up with a song and pay for a rehearsal dinner. (If there is more than that, I'm a terrible, oblivious mother of the groom!)

Early morning is my favorite time of day, too. By lunchtime I start feeling all drained and uninspired, like I've run out of time to get anything done. Isn't that silly? (You're welcome, by the way!)

There are some really beautiful ones out there, but I was surprised to find others that to me would just seem kind of inappropriate and creepy at your son's wedding, like you were reluctant to let him go instead of being joyful. I hope you are having a beautiful weekend, Lisa!

I didn’t see any Dolly songs listed…maybe I better go listen to those, too! I love Dolly! Oh, those mean people don’t make me shed any tears. I just pour my sweetness on them and if that doesn’t work, I ignore them. I used to be a night writer, too, but my brain fizzles out pretty early these days!

You are very welcome! I meant it – I haven’t read it but I know it will be wonderful. And thanks for the vote of confidence that I WILL have a book for you to tell your readers about someday.
I agree with you on the mother/son dance – a lot of fun, but I think the focus should be more on the bride and groom!

I missed my mother-son dance at our son’s wedding. I got sick and went in the bathroom and my MIL took my place – – – I thought she was IN A BIT OF A HURRY to take my place, but then THAT’S another story altogether.

maybe tell your so ahead of time that if you are sick in the bathroom to SAVE your dance for a little later.
You asked where Wisconsin Rapids is – it is smack dab in the middle of the state. One hour straight north of the Dells.

I'll be sure to tell my son to save it! My husband's branch of the family are from Manitowoc. But we drove through the center of Wisconsin coming home a couple of years ago for the first time – gorgeous country!

I hope to see your posts in the FF rounds again. It’s my favorite post of the week but this round I missed. The mom/son dance you included was well planned and rehearsed. I don’t (thank God) remember a Ninja Turtle theme song. I did read that the concept/show/whatever is over 20 years old now.

I'm going to try to keep it up. I always have too many loose ends that I need to clear out by the end of the week. Did you post one this past week? I didn't see it when I posted mine. Who, the Turtles are over twenty? That makes me feel old!
