Whew! I made it through May without a major random health issue.

Why is that surprising? Read "There's Something About May" to get the full story, but suffice it to say that I get a little paranoid beginning on May Day because in four of the past five Mays I've suffered from some weird, random illness or pain.

Shingles…heart palpitations…

You'd be nervous, too!

I'm grateful I got a break this year.

On May 10, twins Wasswa and Nakato were born in New Braunfels, Texas. They are the only living set of giraffe twins, and only the second documented case in the U.S.

They were born at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, which isn't that far from me, so…

Why haven't I gone to see those precious babies yet?

To see them in all their (digital) cuteness, go HERE or HERE.

I've been spending a lot of time filling out job applications, trying to match my eclectic work experience to each position. It's creative writing (nonfiction – I'm not making anything up!) but not the kind I'd like to be working on.

4.

Speaking of trying to find a job, I've taken a vow: I won't visit my hair stylist or buy any wine until I have a steady paycheck.

(That should be enough incentive to keep me searching, don't you think?)

5.

I've been attacked…by poison ivy. I'm careful to wear long pants on my morning walks through the woods, so I'm suspecting a sneak attack via Belle, aka Cuddle Puppy.

It's itchy and ugly, but it won't make me stop Belle from snuggling up against me, or from my morning walks through the woods, where the Mountain Pinks are now blooming…

Boo to the poison ivy, but the pinks are lovely!

Between the pinks and Belle's sweet smiles, I'll put up with the itching. Sure wish I could do something about the blasted mosquitoes, though!

Yikes – no wine or hair cuts! I wish you much luck on your job search. I’m terribly allergic to poison ivy – luckily, it doesn’t grow at high altitude where I live. Glad you’re well (except for the itching.)

Oh, I know. Those are my two indulgences, but when times get tight…. sigh. I'm glad you don't have to worry about poison ivy. It used to be the one thing I wasn't allergic to, and now I react indirectly to it! Just when shorts season began, too, dang it. Hope you have a great Saturday. Thanks for coming by!

I have to ask — why do you want to leave your winery job — seems you like that so much.
Anyways, sorry about the poison ivy — I ‘magine I would be in pure hell. A chigger bite sends me into insanity.

Zanfel – its expensive, but it will clear up the poison ivy in ONE DAY, with no itching, just leaving a scab – i use it as a timber cruiser yearly and i swear by it. 🙂

Surely glad you missed shingles this year, Barbara.
I’ve had them twice (once when I was only 18), and they are quite miserable, for sure.
I absolutely love the last photograph here! Definitely enlargement/hanging for all to see worthy.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Ah, thank you, Lisa! I'm so sorry you had shingles twice. I had chicken pox twice, at 10 and then at 30, and shingles at 50. I'm definitely getting the shingles vaccine!

I've never heard of it, but I'll be sure to look for it now since it seems I'm getting really sensitive to the stuff. Dang it. Thank you!

It's a fun side job, but only part time and not nearly enough money. It doesn't lead to a career, which is what I'm ready for. And it's hard on the knees and back when you work a few days in a row – or a double shift. My ideal job would include  variety – a little sitting and a little standing.

Thank you! I thought I should add the pinks to get everyone’s mind off of the image of poison ivy. lol

I’ve never had poison ivy bother me, but my son is super allergic, and he really suffers from it. I’m glad you had a non eventful May!

I hope you never develop it! For years it didn't affect me, either, although every other weed made me itch, but now I mostly get it indirectly!

I hate poison ivy and it takes me a long time to get rid it! I have about 100 little ivy seedlings coming up in my flower beds and I have been pulling and pulling…with gloves. Glad you dodged the May bullet and so sorry for your bad luck in the past.

Well, considering they were just weird, one-time, treatable things, I should count my blessings they weren't anything worse! Hope you've gotten rid of all your poison ivy!!
