1. Last year I took my kids to see The Hobbit  right before Christmas. We loved it so much, we decided to make it a Christmas tradition by seeing Part 2, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", last night.

Our consensus? It sucked…and I don't use that word often or lightly. I was so disappointed. I'll wait to see Part 3 on Netflix. Or I'll just skip it and read the book again.

On the up side, I spent an evening with my kids and got my movie popcorn fix!

2. Someone plugged my name and number into a zillion auto insurance online quote searches. We've been inundated with phone calls today.

Who would hate me that much?

3. I love that Pope Frances tweets, photo bombs, and was a bar bouncer once upon a time. Besides all the other stuff there is to love about him, of course.

4. Five of my high school classmates passed away in 2013. One would be too many, but five? We're only 54, for goodness sake. We've pinky-sworn to be careful and take care of ourselves and do all within our power to keep the number zero in 2014.

5. Last week I wore two jackets, a hat, and gloves on my morning walks. Today I was in shorts and a tank top.

Crazy Texas weather.

For some reason they decided to have orcs show up and attack everywhere. And the orcs were like ninjas, climbing on roofs, etc. They brought in Sauron prematurely. Lots of cartoonish stuff, cliche dialogue, forced suspense… Just not enough story for a movie, I guess. We love, love, love the Hobbit, so I guess we were extra picky. Although we loved the first movie, so I really don't understand how it could have gone downhill so much! If you go see it, let me know what you thought.

We saw The Hobbit about a week ago. I haven’t said anything online because I don’t want to influence my friends who love the book and the movies so far. I do agree with you though. It just was not all that great. Too all over the place. One review I read said it wouldn’t have hurt to have a script. I have to concur. You can’t just throw a bunch of action sequences and a cool CGI dragon together and get a movie. We’ll probably see three in the theaters just because. I’m hoping my kid doesn’t want to see 2 again as a rental. Sometimes he does. I don’t think I can sit through it again. I am sorry to hear about the insurance quotes. Did your email get hacked or something like that? Of course, that wouldn’t get the phone number. Did someone find a business card and misuse it? That’s just awful. Also, sorry about your classmates. That’s kind of scary. Seems like you guys are way too young to be losing so many people. Maybe it’s an anomaly. Well, here’s wishing you a healthy and happy New Year. And Merry Christmas in case I don’t get a chance to say so in the near future.

And depending on where you are in Texas, it will be cold again tomorrow….and it’s windy as Chicago right now in my neck of the woods in Texas!!!! Get your coat back out!
I’m 58 and all of my old boyfriends have passed away. I guess I picked the right guy cuz my hubby is still alive. You just never know….live right and take care of yourself…
    Merry Christmas!

You are so right. A front is coming through tomorrow that will drop the temps to freezing again. Sigh. I'm 54 and only two of my old boyfriends has passed away, but that's too many. I'm sorry about all of yours. It makes you think a little more about life, doesn't it?

I'm actually glad to hear you agree about the movie. It's such a shame but it also makes me mad that they wasted the opportunity to present the story but so totally flubbed it! Sigh. Too many action sequences. You nailed it.  And absolutely too much CGI. Since my home phone was used, I don't think my email was hacked or my business cards abused. It seems like a lot of work for no reason for someone. Weird. I agree we are too young to have this many pass away. Heart issues and cancer have taken the majority. Growing up near chemical plants probably didn't help. I'm glad we got away when we did.

My son and his friends are going to see this movie today (IMAC, reclining chairs, the whole 9 yards…). I won’t let on about your thoughts — besides, I don’t think they are as worldly thoughtful as you when it comes to movies. Lol.

They'll probably like it, unless they hold The Hobbit too dearly, as my kids and I do! lol It was action-packed, that's for sure!

My husband has been trying to find health insurance and his phone rings off the wall now. So annoying! Maybe someone inadvertently put your number by mistake. :/ Last night we had the A/C on; today the rains, winds and possibly tornadoes come. Bi-polar for sure!

Bi-polar is a great way to describe this weather. We've got the rain and cold back this morning. Wreaking havoc with my allergies, that's for sure!

Crazy Virginia weather too…upper 60s I think. I love new holiday traditions–movies w/ the kids sounds perfect. But as for the deaths–Wow! That’s a lot for only 54. Here’s looking to a healthier 2014 for us all!

Well — I was wondering how they were going to stretch a charming little book like the Hobbit over three movies. Now we know. Sigh.

The weather has been crazy here, too!
Last week I was out with scarf, boots, gloves and shoveling snow.
Today it was 64 degrees! Crazy!
    But I’ll take it!

I'm with you! I don't mind the freezing temps for a day or two, but I'll take 64 over them any day!!
